Trace them with a .08 Zig Millennium and fill in the centers with a brush marker, or trace them onto paper and cut them out. You can also stipple ink through the template shape or outline the shapes, then use a background rubber stamp (like a polka dot!) through the template. The possibilities are endless!

Creative Cardmaking Design Team Call

Creative Cardmaking & Papercraft

Ruey Enanoria

If you have been meaning to try cardmaking, Creative Cardmaking & Papercraft magazine has plenty of variety and really clear instructions. The supply lists are detailed and the photography is amazing.

Julia Matthews, previously at For Keeps, is now at Derwent Howard Media and the new look for this magazine has got her clean style all over it.

I also saw on Aussie Pub Calls that she is looking for submissions and has made a call for a magazine design team. It’s past the deadline but she probably hasn’t made any decisions yet.

Send submissions to letters@creativecardmaking.com.au

Here’s the press release from Julia:

Press Release
August 19 2008

We’re very excited to be revamping Creative Cardmaking and Papercraft. Our philosophy is simple. We’re filling the magazine with cards you will love to make and everything you need for foolproof results!

There’s something for everyone, and all levels of experience. The Spring issue is packed with projects, 50 cards to recreate plus scrapbooking layouts. The magazine is beautiful to flick through but it’s much more than a gallery, it’s loaded with simple-to-follow instructions and many of the projects come with helpful ‘step-by-step’ photography to refer back to. Each issue also features articles, interviews and reviews to enjoy leisurely over a cup of tea, and plenty of product reviews. More than ever before, cardmakers can break out their supplies with total confidence, knowing that making great looking cards has never been easier!

Creative Cardmaking is onsale in newsagents nationally and in New Zealand. Look out for the free stickers on the cover!

Journalling Baby's First Year

Claire DalySue Madex's post from last week reminded me about my own experience with baby scrapbooks and a project I'm very proud of. To set the backdrop to the story first though, I started a cross stitch when I was pregnant with my first child. I had grand intentions of tending to it with love and attention each week when I lay on the couch with my feet up glowing with maternal bliss. It's still waiting to be finished and my son started prep this year (go on, I know I'm not the only one!)

When son number 2 came along. I was presented with a lovely named album by some scrapbooking friends and another project was embarked upon and this time I was determined to finish. To journal (not just photograph) the details of my son's first year. Read more to see how this one turned out...

Digital Tips 101: Calibrating Your Monitor

Heather Taylor

A reader recently left me a comment asking what I was talking about in reference to the journaling on my “Pebble” layout. I was completely puzzled, until I realized…she couldn’t see it! Hopefully you’ll clearly see in the layout that the journaling is on a half-circle path, in very light blue. But if you can’t, then perhaps you need to do some fiddling about with your hardware!

Crafting Buddies

Mistra Hoolihan

We all love to create with our buddies, but I’m always surrounded by mine!

I was looking through layouts I did a year ago and noticed one I’ve done of my scrapping area, mess that it was…some things don’t change! But what I did notice is some little trinkets still sitting there with me in the same place they were sitting a year ago. These guys are my scrapping friends!!

I say "scrapping friends" because lots of them were given to me by friends or loved ones and remind me of them!

Kel {my son} made the little caped plasticine guy who sits on top of my monitor…he’s pretty funky! Then I have my little easel that holds ATC’s I’ve been given, a glass ball that was a gift…and then the little glass elephant and mouse that Kel gave me because the match the glass ball. I have my favourite Scarab Beetles to hold down stray receipts and bits before they get put away… tins, pegs, tags, angels, fairies, candles and little wind up toys that make me giggle! They’re all here keeping me company every time I sit at my desk, and I couldn’t part with them! I have a new bear as well who travels with me, my last one stood in for a friend when she couldn’t go to a retreat with the rest of us…and then went to live with her afterwards!

Patterned Paper - Use It or Hoard It?

Liz Weber

I found this definition for the word hoard:

A supply or fund stored up and often hidden away...

How much patterned paper do YOU have? Come on now and be honest...lol. Do you use it up as soon as you buy it or do you hoard it away and wait until just the “right” project comes along?

Surely I have enough now to pretty much start my own scrapbook shop - well one that just sells patterned paper and maybe Green Tara Flowers!

Using Chipboard As Stamps

Penny HackneySometimes a page calls for a grungy handmade feel - and I've discovered a fantastic technique to achieve it!

Flicking through a US scrap mag the other day, I came across a cool idea for using chipboard to stamp with...so guess what I've been doing on this last cold, indoors-by-the-fire, perfect-for-scrapping weekend?

Grab some of those chipboard letters and shapes sitting neglected in your stash, an acrylic block and some paint and join me...
